Simpang
Lima Gumul, Kediri
Want to take a picture with the backdrop of the Arc
de Triomphe building in Paris but it’s to far to get there? Relax, there is a
solution, really. You have to visit Kediri. In the city there is a building
that looks similar to the Arc de Triomphe. The gate-shaped building built in
2003 and inaugurated in 2008, has become one of the favorite hangout locations
in Kediri. Simpang Lima Gumul, or often called SLG, is actually a meeting of
five roads leading to the five areas in Kediri, namely Pagu, Gampengrejo, Pare,
Pesantren, and Plosoklaten.
If the Arc de Triomphe was built to honor the
fighters in France who fought in the French revolution, the purpose of building
the Simpang Lima Gumul Monument is not clear. Some sources say that the
construction of SLG was inspired by Jongko Jojoboyo, the king of Kediri Kingdom
in the 12th century, who wanted to unite the five regions of Kediri Regency.
In addition to being a city icon and a new sights,
SLG is also a new center of economy and commerce. Around this strategic area
has been built various public facilities such as meeting hall, intercity bus
terminal, temporary market, as well as public recreation facilities such as
Water Park Gumul Paradise Island. When I talk about Kediri, I remember a small
village that close to SLG, a village that has more than a hundred English
course, a village is called Pare Village or mostly known as Kampung Inggris.
Mount
Bromo
Mount Bromo is the most favorite place in East Java
Province. Not only attract local tourists to visit, Mount Bromo also has long
made foreign tourists fascinated with its beauty.
You must travel by using a jeep from the border of
Malang to reach the foot of Mount Bromo. Some agents provide a jeep rental
package with a capacity of 6 people to several locations in the area of Mount
Bromo with price range Rp400.000-Rp650.000. To enter the area of Mount Bromo,
you only need to pay entrance fee Rp27.500 on weekdays and Rp32,500 on
holidays.
Enjoy the beauty of the rising sun in some
observation spots, such as Pananjakan. You can also try a trip up Mount Bromo
by using horses and enjoy the exotic whisper of sand and Bukit Teletubbies. The
area of Mount Bromo has a height above 2000 mdpl so the weather is quite cold
in the morning. So, don’t forget to bring a jacket or sweater!
